Your choice wins. Otherwise Bob picks.

The most specific choice winsNothing chosen? Auto picks for each job

Auto is where everyone starts

Bob picks from the models your team is allowed to use. If he cannot decide, he uses his usual one.

What Auto does

Auto means Bob picks the model for each job, based on what you asked for. It is what you get until someone chooses a model. It only picks from the models you are allowed to use, and an admin can choose Auto explicitly as the workspace default.

Pick one yourself

Tell Bob in Slack, by name or by description. Say “use the smarter one” or “put me back on the fast one”.

Admins set the guardrails

On the Models page an admin can choose which models anyone here may use, set a workspace default, and give a person their own default or their own shorter list. A person’s own choice beats the workspace default. Leave the list empty to allow every model.

If someone asks for a model they are not allowed to use, Bob says so and offers what they can use. The Models page labels each model with how its credit cost compares.

Schedules carry their own model

A schedule runs again and again, so its model is a standing cost. When you set one up, Bob recommends a model, says why, and saves it with the schedule. That model wins over your personal choice every time the schedule runs.

Attachments can change the model

Every model Bob offers today can look at images and files, so this is rare. If one ever cannot, and your message has an attachment your model cannot see, Bob moves that job to an allowed model that can, and the receipt says so. If none of your allowed models can see attachments, the job runs without looking at them and the receipt tells you that too. More on files.

If a model’s maker has an outage

Bob only moves a job when it is on Auto. Then he moves it once, before anything has run, to a similar model from another maker. A model a person chose is never swapped: your own choice, a default an admin set for the workspace or for you, or a schedule’s own model. He tells you it is down, and you can try again or pick another.

If you bring your own keys, Bob only uses models your keys can run. How bring your own keys works.
